Parenting: Teaching Children Accountability, not Instant Gratification, April 15th, $12, discussing every parents' struggle.  How do you help your kids think long term instead of reaching for the shiny toy?  Jan Faull, parental educator, discusses how to teach children responsibility and accountability instead of entitlement and instant gratification. 

 

Dance: The big one is Swan Lake, starting April 9th, $24+.  This one is a bit like the Nutcracker, in that it serves as an introduction to the ballet for newbies.  Everyone all all knowledge levels can immensely enjoy this performance.  Go see one of the world's most famous ballets.

 

Chorus: Seattle Women's Chorus, Lullaby of Broadway, April 10-11th, $20+.  Broadway's larger-than-life females are celebrated, showcasing the memorable females along in a variety of best numbers.  Using the word "lullaby" in the title is actually a bit misleading.  With their powerful voices and captivating selections, no body will be falling asleep.

 

Smarts: Adult Spelling Bee, April 13th, $5.  If you've recovered from your junior high trauma of a numbskull misspelling and shamefully getting the boot, here's your second chance.  At this contest, you're just playing for beer money.

 

Weight Loss: Seattle HCG Diet Weight Loss Clinic, these folks seems to have a wining solution for weight loss, since it doesn't involve regimented meal routines or impossible exercise efforts.  The costs are easy, and they do get results.

 

Organizing: Manage Your Inbox, April 9th, $37, a professional organizer explains how to finally gain control over your overflowing email Inbox.  Answer this: do you have emails in your inbox right now that you've already read, but not categorized?  Email is one of those applications we love/hate.  If you're swamped doing more emailing than work, go for this.

 

Theater: Dr. Jekyll and Hyde, starting April 10th, $37+, the classic Victorian thriller of the monster within.  The line between good and evil can be thin indeed.  You know the story, but this production will still leave you frightened.  They even reproduce the London fog.

 

Genealogy: Russian-Jewish Genealogy, April 13th, $5.  Does your family history include ancestors who lived in Czarist Russia and/or the former Soviet Union? Numerous sources of genealogical information exist, although some are harder to find and translate than others. This presentation advices on how to locate, understand, and use some of the important sources for Russian Jewish genealogy.

 

Lecture: City of Thieves author discusses his work, April 10th, $45.  What began as a curiosity of his grandparents’ experience in Leningrad during World War II has become CITY OF THIEVES, the second novel by David Benioff. 

 

Organization: City Arts Magazine, not so much of an organization, but a free local publication covering our arts scene.  These folks have three publications, for Seattle, the Eastside, and Tacoma, so they do a great job of covering local communities and the smaller gems.

 

 

 

Seattle Fashion Blogs:
The best blogs covering our scene...

 

 

Pike and Pine: This is the most well known fashion blog in Seattle.  The street photos are the best, but the author can be slow to update, and it seems as though she spends more time out of Seattle than in.  Still, you might spot somebody you know.

 

Urban Fashion Network: This is local fashion news and national news with a local interpretation. The event schedule is pretty good.

 

La Rousse:  This fashion blog is run by a boutique, so the focus is commercial.

 

My Haberdasher: This is a men's fashion blog.  It's a little thin, but the info is still good.
